Martin Kaymer made a winning return in his first outing since he won the USPGA Championship. He cruised to victory at the KLM Dutch Open with a marvellous display of precision golf.
Kaymer hit rounds of 67,67,66,66 for a 14 under par total that was good enough to win by 4 strokes from Fabrizio Zanotti and Christian Nilsson.
The win takes Kaymer almost €500,000 ahead of Graeme McDowell on the "Race to Dubai" table with earnings of €2,554,400 this year.
It was a different story for the two runner-ups. Nilsson was 144th in the order of merit while Zanotti was 111th. With only the top 115 guaranteed to keep their place on tour next year they were under pressure to perform. They both birdied the 18th to share 2nd and collect a cheque for €156,340 each. The pair can now relax as Zanotti is now 74th and Nilsson is up to 88th.
Darren Clarke returned another fine performance with a 17th place finish after rounds of 68,71,67,68 ( -6 ). Damien McGrane was 26th on -4 after scores of 68,67,72 and 69.
The other Irish results were:
