Open Champion Louis Oosthuizen got 2011 of to the perfect start with a play-off win in the Africa Open and deny Chris Wood and Manuel Quiros a maiden European Tour title.
All three had finished tied on 16 under par at East London Golf Club after an enthralling last round which saw no fewer than 7 different leaders on the final day.
In the play-off Oosthuizen looked to be in trouble off the tee as he hooked left, but, after finding a fortunate lie, he showed the class that made him Open Champion to fire his approach to eight feet.
Quiros narrowly failed to chip in from the fringe and Wood made a great attempt with his 25 foot birdie effort, but it was Oosthuizen who calmly holed out for a birdie 3 and his 3ed European Tour title.
Darren Clarke and Gareth Maybin were the only Irish playing and they both made a steady start to their 2011 season. Clarke took a share of 26th place with a closing round of 68. His total of 8 under par was 2 better than Maybin who closed with a 71.
