Leona Maguire walks away with Portuguese Ladies Championship.

LEONA MAGUIRE won the Portuguese Ladies Championship when she clinched the title by 15 shots at the Aroeira Golf Glub near Lisbon.

The 16-year-old, from Slieve Russell Golf Club in Cavan, took an eight-shot lead into the final round and proved unstoppable as she scored a four-under-par 68 for a total of 274 (14-under).

Leona finished 15 shots ahead of Karolin Lampert (Germany) and Holland's Karlijn Zaanen, who each finished on 289, one-over-par.

Leona's twin sister Lisa shot a level-par 72 to finish on 4 over par, 292 and 10th place, which made her the next best finisher from Britain and Ireland.

The Slieve Russell pair combined to win the Nations Cup section of this prestigious tournament for Ireland.

Charlene Reid (Royal Portrush)75 ( 306 ) and Gillian O'Leary (Cork) 79( 308 )were the other Irish competitiors.
