MOONEY/HIGGINS TIE AT FOTA ISLAND PRO-AM.

Damien Mooney made a brilliant recovery to tie for the main prize after the 36 hole Fota Island Irish PGA Pro-Am came to a conclusion. Belfast man Mooney had a 4 under par 68 over the Belvelly course in the 1st round to sit in joint 2nd place with Glen Robinson ( St Helens Bay. ) and one shot behind Darren McWilliams.

There was a shot-gun start in round two with Mooney starting at the 8th hole on the difficult Deer Park course. He walked off the 8th green level par after a nightmare 8 at the par 4. Big hitting Mooney put the nightmare behind him to hit 7 birdies and claw his way back to the top of the leaderboard with a 1 under par 70.

After his terrible start, Mooney was happy to share top spot with Waterville's David Higgins with a 5 under par total. Higgins, who lost the No1 spot on the "Race to Mount Juliet" table to Irish PGA Champion, David Mortimer last week, claimed it back again with a best of the day 67 on the Deer Park course.

Overnight leader, Darren McWilliams finished in 3rd place after a 72 in the 2nd round left him on 4 under par.

John Dignam ( Slade Valley ) brought home the winning team with scores of 92 & 97 points to beat Brendan McDermott's ( Castlecomer ) team by 2 points.
