HOME FAVORITE LAWRIE LEADS AT GLENEAGLES.

40 year old Paul Lawrie hit a 5 under par 65 in the first round of THE JOHNNIE WALKER CHAMPIONSHIP at GLENEAGLES to lead the tournament by one shot from a group of players.
Lawrie had the perfect round with 3 birdies,a 40 foot putt for an eagle at the 9th and 14 pars.A change of fortune is needed by Lawrie as he is 97th in the race to Dubai and his exemption from winning the Open Championship in 1999 is up this year.

Gareth Maybin got a terrible start with a double bogey at the first. He went to +3 after the 5th,before hitting 6 birdies to return a -3 round of 69 and a share of 6th place.
Johnny Caldwell was in great shape when he covered the back nine in 3 under par.He gave them all back on the front nine and needed a birdie at the final hole for a level par 72 to join Damien McGrane and Paul McGinley in 47th place.
Shane Lowry put in a great finish of birdie, birdie to help rescue his round. He gave himself a chance of making the cut on 74 +2.
Last week's play off defeat took it's toll on Peter Lawrie. He was never in control of his game and took 76 shots.
