Lawrie falls 4 short in defence of Spanish title.....

Peter Lawrie put up a great defence of his Open de Espana title when he shot a final round 69 to finish on 14 under par and only 4 shots behind French winner Thomas Levet.
Lawrie started the day 3 shots behind Levet but got it back to two heading into the back nine, thanks to a 3 wood shot to 6 feet for an eagle at the 7th. Peter birdied the 14th and 15th and with any luck could easily have birdied the last three to put some pressure on Levet, but it wasn't to be.
Levet was kept going by the great golf of Paraquay's Fabrizio Zanotti who fired a 65 to claim 2nd on his own.
Lawrie collected 112,600.00 Euros and is looking forward to the Irish Open in Baltray in a fortnight's time.
Paul McGinley fell back with a 75 for 31st place and 14,709 Euros and Gary Murphy was well down the field in 65th position on +4 for 4600 Euros.
