EAST OF IRELAND SUCCESS FOR CIAN CURLEY.

Newlands' Cian Curley picked up his first Championship success at the Famous County Louth golf club with a 7 under par total of 281.Having led after 2 rounds of 68 he fell behind when Galway's Eddie Mc Cormack hit a third round of 67 to move 3 in front of him.

While Mc Cormack fell away over the last round with a 79,Curley held his nerve to sign for a level par 72.Gary McDermott (Co Sligo) put up a good show with a final round of 70 to win the runner up prize on 5 under par.

Curley was delighted with his first Major,as he had lost out to Pat Murray in the final of the Irish Close Championship last year.

Moments after his victory he received a phone call from his good friend Shane Lowry who made history on the same course last year when he won the Irish Open as an amateur.
