Paul Culter reaches quarter finals of Amateur Championship.

Portstewart's Paul Culter made it through to the quarter finals on the Amateur Championship only to lose to the eventual winner,Korea's Jin Jeogh on the 16th green.

Culter who won the Lytham Trophy this year easily qualified after rounds of 67 and 74 at Muirfield golf club.He went on to beat Jonathan Bell from Royal Blackheath by 4/3 in round one.Michael Stewart(Troon)took Paul to the 18th and in the afternoon he saw off Yuki Usami from Japan by 3/2 to reach the quarter finals.

Culter came up against great golf from Jin Jeogh and had to admit defeat on the 15th green.It was no surprise when Jeogh went on to claim the title by a 5/4 margin from Scotlands James Byrne. Jeogh is the first Asian winner of the title in the 125 years of the championship.He gets an invite to the Open at St.Andrews and to the 2011 Masters.

Irish Amateur Champion,Alan Dunbar from Rathmore qualified on 139 -3.He went on to beat Michael Buttacavdi from the US 2/1,and Portmarnocks James Fox who qualified on 140 -2.Dunbar took Edouand Espana to the 19th before tumbling out of the Championship.

East of Ireland Champion,Cian Curley got through the qualifing on the +1 143 cut mark but lost in the first round to Tiago Rodrigues from Portugal 3/2.Andrew Hogan also lost in round one to Jose Maria Joia by 4/3.

Paul o Kane (Moyola Park) and his clubmate Luke Lennox both failed to qualify on 146,Banbridge club mates Connor Doran 147 and Rory leonard 153 both failed to qualify.
