MAIDEN VICTORY FOR DAVID HORSEY IN GERMANY.

25 year old David Horsey came charging through from five behind for his first European Tour victory in the BMW International Open in Germany.

Horsey birdied two of the last three holes to grab the €333,030 first prize, and was surprised to find himself in pole position as long time leader Bradley Dredge and Rafael Carrera-Bello both double bogied the tricky 16th hole to let him in.

Horsey was on the same Walker cup team in 2007 at Royal County Down as Rory McIlroy and won the Challenge Tour rankings the following year. This win will open more doors for him with a two year exemption and lots of other invites.

It was an English one-two when Ross Fisher eagled the par five 18th to take the runners-up spot one shot behind his compatriot.

Newcastle,Co Down resident,Simon Thornton got his first taste of the big time and he handled it in superb fashion.Playing in the last group with Dredge and Fisher he birdied the 5th and eagled the 6th to reach 18 under par.He lost a shot at the 7th and doubled the 10th to drop out of contention but he held on bravely to finish joint 9th on 14 under par and win his biggest cheque to date of €42,400.It has been a good first year for Thornton,as he finished 13th in Madiera and a top 20 in the Joburg Open since gaining his card at tour school at the end of 2009.Thornton had a great week on the greens coming out No1 with an average of 26.8 putts per round.

Shane Lowry and Peter Lawrie both finished in a share of 17th on 12 under par and earned €25,400.

The cut came at 3 under par.Paul Mc Ginley was one shot away after rounds of 71,71.Damien Mc Grane,Michael Hoey and Darren Clarke were all 1 under par while Gary Murphy continues to struggle this year with rounds of 70.75 to miss the cut by 4. shots.
