(10)LISA MAGUIRE REACHES SEMI-FINAL OF THE BRITISH GIRLS.

The British Girls' Amateur Championship was played at Royal Belfast. The top 64 scores made it through to matchplay after 36 holes of stroke play.

Winner of the English Women's Open Stroke play title the previous week, South Korean Julie Yang took the leading qualifing prize with rounds of 69/74 ( 141 ). French ladies' Champion, 18 year old Alexandra Bonetti was 2nd best with rounds of 68/74 ( 142 ). Home player Leona Maguire from Slieve Russell was 3rd best on 145 after rounds of 72/73 ( 145 ). Lisa Maguire was the only other Irish qualifier when she made it in 54th place after scores of 79/76 ( 155 ).

In the first two rounds Leona Maguire beat Emily Penttila from Finland and 15 year old Lauren Taylor from Woburn on the final green, while Lisa beat Spain's Noemi Jimenez and Sweden's Emelie Lundstrom 3/2 to reach the last 16.

The twins needed to win their morning games to meet each other in the quarter finals, but it wasn't to be. Leona lost to Germany's Antonia Scherer on the last green while Lisa won her game by 3/2 over another Swedish girl, Camilla Hedberg. In the afternoon she got revenge for Leona when she beat Antonia Scherer by 3/1 to reach the semi-finals.

Lisa came up against great golf from French Ladies' Champion Alexandre Bonetti in the semi's and was knocked out on the 16th green. Bonetti went on to a very easy win in the final against Laura Sedda by 7/6 in a one sided contest. Sedda had earlier beaten Julie Yang the leading qualifier.
