NICK MC CARTHY WINS AT FORMBY HALL ON THE EUROPRO TOUR.

NICK McCarthy (Moortown)has claimed his first victory on the PGA EuroPro Tour after edging out Scott Henry(Loch Lomand) on the second extra hole of a play-off.

McCarthy and Henry had both finished on ten-under after three rounds at the Formby Hall Classic in Merseyside,but McCarthy triumphed to collect the £10,000 winner’s prize and move up to 5th in the order of merit and a step closer to advancing to the Challenge Tour.

Henry's cheque for £5,000 lifted him to 13th in the order of merit and in position to move up over the next few tournaments.

Order of merit leader Daniel Guant was 3rd,one shot behind the leaders on 9 under par.He has increased his lead to over £9,000 on top of the table.

The best of the Irish was Brian Mc Elhinney.He got off to a slow start with a 2 over par 74.He improved to hit a 70 and 69 to share 13th place on 3 under par.
Brendan Mc Carroll started brightly with a 69,but he faded over the next two rounds with a 73 and 74 for a share of 25th on level par. Michael Mc Geady had a 68 in the second round,but opened with a 75 and closed with a 77 for a share of 45th on +4.

The 36 hole cut came at +1 145.Unlucky were Paul O Hanlon and Ger Hall; both had rounds of 74/73 +3.
