(11) PORTRUSH LADIES WIN SENIOR CUP AT CORK GOLF CLUB.

Royal Portrush claimed their 24th Irish Senior Cup title after a convincing win over a strong Douglas team by 4.5-0.5 in the All Ireland final at Cork Golf Club. Earlier that day they had a 4-1 win over Lahinch in the semi-finals and the previous day in the quarter finals they had to work hard to overcome Wexford Golf Club 3.5 - 1.5.

In the final, Lucy Simpson playing down at number 4 gave Portrush the perfect start when she shook hands with Aoife Lane on the 12th green. Gemma McClenaghan played Karen O’Neill in the top game. She claimed Portrush's second point with a 4/2 win. Charlene Reid edged out Eavan Higgins with a birdie at the 18th to leave the team needing a half point to secure victory.

Helen Jones, who was undefeated all weekend, brought the trophy north for the fifth time in eight years with a 4/3 win over Ailish Thompson. Maura Diamond earned a half point when she and Kate MacCann were called-in after 17 holes.

FINAL:ROYAL PORTRUSH BEAT DOUGLAS 4.5-0.5.
