(22) PETER LAWRIE LOSES CZECH OPEN AFTER A PLAY OFF.

Dubliner Peter Lawrie set off in the last round of the Czech Open on 4 under par and 8 shots behind the leader Peter Hanson. "All I was looking for was a top 10 finish," said a surprised Lawrie, when he found himself in a play off after a final round of 66.

Lawrie was still 4 under par after 7 holes. He then went on a run making birdie, birdie, eagle, birdie, birdie from the 8th to the 12th and followed up with 6 pars for a closing round of 66 that left him with the clubhouse lead on -10. Lawrie was joined an hour later by rookie Gary Boyd who birdied the 18th for a 68.

Peter Hanson started the last round on -12. He got a disastrous start with 3 dropped shots in the first 4 holes to lose the lead to Boyd. He rallied well by covering the next 14 holes in 1 under par to join Lawrie and Boyd in a sudden death play off.

The trio all parred the first play off hole but it was Hanson who holed an 18 foot putt for a birdie on the second play off hole to claim the €333,330 cheque.

Peter Lawrie and Gary Boyd took home €173,710 each.

It was another steady week for Damien Mc Grane. He finished in 25th place and won €19,900 after rounds of 74,72,71 and 70.

Shane Lowry had the low score of the week. He produced a brilliant second round of 64 after opening with a 75. He took 77 in round three and closed with a 72 for a share of 29th place on level par and won €16,900.

Michael Hoey shot 70,72,73 and 75 to win €11,000 for a share of 43rd on 2 over par 290.

Gary Murphy made the cut on the +2 mark after rounds of 73,73. He was going nicely until the par 3,12th hole. After hitting 4 shots into the water surrounding the green, he walked off with an 11 and signed for a round of 85. He closed with a final round of 77 for a +20 total and down in 79th and last place.

Simon Thornton was unlucky to miss the +2 cut mark by one shot.
