After the Johnny Walker Championship at Gleneagles,Colin Montgomery had the job of announcing the European Ryder Cup team to face the Americans at Celtic Manor Golf Resort in Wales from October 1-3.

The top 4 from the World rankings were Lee Westwood,Rory McIlroy,Martin Kaymer and Graeme Mc Dowell.

The top 5 from the European Tour were Ian Poulter,Ross Fisher,Francesco Molinari,Miguel Angel Jimenez and Peter Hanson.

The 3 wild cards went to Padraig Harrington,Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari.

There was disappointment for World No9 Paul Casey and double PGA Tour winner this year,Justin Rose.

Ireland will have a keen interest in the Ryder Cup this time around as they have Rory McIlroy,Graeme Mc Dowell and Padraig Harrington all in action on the golf course while Darren Clarke and Paul Mc Ginley will play their part behind the scene as vice-captains along with Sergio Garcia and Thomas Bjorn.

Corey Pavin,Captain of the US team had the hard task of selecting 4 wild cards for his Ryder Cup team after the Duetsche Bank Championship,which was won by Charlie Hoffman with a fantastic score of 22 under par.

It wasn't enough to earn Hoffman a pick nor was there room for Anthony Kim who was 9th on the Ryder Cup order of merit.

Pavin selected the experienced Tiger Woods,Stewart Cink,Zach Johnston and rookie Rickie Fowler.The 8 automatic players from the order of merit are Phil Mickleson,Hunter Mahan,Bubba Watson,Jim Furyk,Steve Stricker,Dustin Johnston,Jeff Overton and Matt Kucher.

The vice captain's are Tom Lehman,Davis Love 111,Paul Goydos and Jeff Sluman.
