(21)MCELROY CROWNED IRISH BOYS' CHAMPION.

Ballymena’s Dermot McElroy shot a closing 73 to win the Irish Boys' Amateur Close Championship at Dungarvan Golf Club.

The Irish Boys' International, who reached the semi-finals of the North of Ireland Championship in July and the last eight in the British Boys' Championship, held a four stroke lead at the halfway stage. A 75 on the final morning was good enough for McElroy to maintain the lead entering the final round. A solid final round of 73 in difficult conditions was good enough for a 7 shot winning margin from Conor Glynn ( Carton House ) and Stuart Grehan ( Tullamore ).

Conor Glynn was awarded the under 17 trophy and Jack Leacy from the home club Dungarvan won the under 16 title.
