(24)AMATEUR ROBINSON WINS EUROPRO TOURNAMENT.

English International and Lytham Trophy winner, 21 year old James Robinson made history by becoming the first amateur to win an event on the PGA EuroPro Tour.

Robinson, 21, was competing at The VEKA and Network VEKA UK Open at De Vere Slaley Hall in Northumberland after being given a sponsors’ invite into the tournament.He rewarded the sponsors with scores of 66,65 and 73 for a 12 under par winning total.

“It’s a great honour to be the first amateur player to win on the EuroPro Tour. It was disappointing not to be able to collect the £10,000 but I don't want to rush into the Professional game," said Robinson.

Instead the money was shared between Jamie Abbott and James Hepworth who shared second spot on 11 under par.

The leading Irish player was Neil O Briain from Royal Dublin. He shot rounds of 68, 71, 69 to share 15th place on 8 under par and win £505.

Tim Rice from Limerick was 23rd on 6 under par after scores of 71, 71, 68 to win £331.

Barrie Trainor, Team Ireland scored 69, 72 and 71 to finish 39th on 4 under par and collect £252.

Noel Fox, with 73, 68 and 75 left him in a share of 51st place on level par for £197, while Thomas O Flynn had a disappointing final round of 80 to drop down into 56th place on 4 over par after opening with a 72 and 68. He won £175.

The 36 hole cut came at 2 under par. Brian Mc Elhinney was unlucky to miss out by one shot after scores of 69 and 74.
