(4)BRITISH BOYS' TITLE GOES TO SPAIN.

225 boys from all over Europe took part in the British Boys Amateur Championship at Kilmarnock( Barassie )Golf Club in Scotland. The winner was Spanish boy Adrian Otaegui who defeated German Max Rottluff on the 15th green in the final.

Five Irish came through the 36 hole qualifing rounds to reach the matchplay. Jamie Richardson ( Royal Portrush ) was unlucky to meet the winner in the first round and lost out by 3/2.

Chris Selfridge( Moyola Park ) beat Oscar Sharpe( England ) by 6/4; Dermot McElroy( Ballymena ) beat Sebastian Van Der Hoff( Germany ) by 2/1; Alex Gleeson( Castle ) beat Oliver Baker( Cardiff ) on the final green and Jeff Hopkins( Skerries ) beat Frederik Hammer( Denmark )2/1.

In the last 32 Dermot McElroy came up against his Irish team mate Alex Gleeson and beat him 2/1. Jeff Hopkins beat Jamie Rutherford( Knebworth ) on the final green but unfortunately Chris Selfridge lost out to Scott Gibson( Southenness ) by 3/2.

Dermot McElroy beat Ewan Scott( St.Andrews ) on the last green to book a quarter final spot and he was joined by Jeff Hopkins who also had to go to the final green before seeing off David Blick( East Devon ).

In the quarter final Dermot McElroy bowed out with a final hole defeat to German lad Aaron Leitmannstetter. Jeff Hopkins kept the Irish flag flying when he reached the semi-final with a 2/1 victory over Stanislas Gautier( France ).

It was all over for Hopkins and Ireland when Germany's Max Rottluff finished off the semi-final game on the 17th to book a final place against Adrian Otaegui from Spain.
Otaegui got in front early in the final and won the British Boys' Championship on the 15th green.
