Fred Funk leads Senior Open Championship.

There was nobody more surprised than Fred Funk when his 8 iron from 168 yards at the final hole finished in the hole for an eagle 2 to complete a round of 65 to go with his opening 64,for a record 36 hole total of -11.Funk knew his ball was close to the hole and had turned around to get the putter from his caddy when the crowd let him know the ball was in the hole.
For most of the day he had a 7 shot lead until Sam Torrance posted a 65 to close the gap to 3 as he is on -8.Loren Roberts is in 3rd on -6.Michael Allen,Tom Kite and Gordon J Brand are -5 and on -4 is the top Irish man Mark McNulty,Tom Watson,Greg Norman,Don Pooley and Denis Watson.
Denis oSullivan 68/71 -1 and Des Smyth who was second after a first round 66 fell back to level par with a 74.

The cut came at +3,and Eamon Darcy +5,Peter oHagan +9,Christy o Connor jun +11,Jimmy Heggarty +12 and amateur Niall Lavin +16 are on their way home.
