Jimenez leads OPEN after a brilliant -6,64.

It was the senior golfers who showed the younger generation how to play links golf in a MAJOR championship.
59 year old Tom Watson a winner at Turnberry in 1977,and a winner of the Senior Open at the same venue led the opening round for 7 hours along with another champion,2003 winner Ben Curtis on -5 65s.It was late in the evening before Miguel Angel Jimenez birdied the last hole from 45 feet to hand in the leading score of 64.His round was played to perfection with 6 birdies and 12 pars.
Last weeks winner on the US Tour,Steve Stricker is one of a group of 5 on -4,66.
The golden oldies of Mark Calcavecchia,Mark oMeara and Vijay Singh are in a group of 11 on -3,67.
The best of the Irish is Graeme McDowell on -2,68.Defending champion Padraig Harrington plotted his way around nicely for a -1 score of 69 and is joined by 20 year old Rory McIlroy who seemed to take on a lot of silly shots, but survived with some great birdies.
Darren Clarke and Paul McGinley are level with Tiger on +1,71s.David Higgins recovered on the closing holes for a +3,73 but Damien McGrane will need a miracle tomorrow if he is to make the cut on +8,78.
