Irelands two top golfers went head to head over the Nick Faldo designed,Lough Erne golf resort in County Fermanagh yesterday to celebrate the opening of the £35 million resort in front of a 6,000 crowd.
Triple Major winner Padraig Harrington from Dublin and 20 year old Rory McIlroy trilled the crowd,not only with their wonderful golf but with the time they spent signing autographs and talking to people.
McIlroy who is attached to Lough Erne knew the course and took an early advantage by racing to the turn in 3 under par.Harrington on his first visit was 5 behind on 2 over par.Golf is a game of two halves and harrington closed the gap to 2 by covering the back nine in -4 for a round of 70.McIlroy was 1 undr for his nine and came in the winner with a -4 round of 68.
The real winner was Co.Fermanagh. Fermanagh is better known for boating and fishing but after this game is shown in all countries around the World the people will be flocking here with their golf clubs.
