Loren Roberts wins SENIOR OPEN in exciting finish.

There was a 3 hole play off to decide the SENIOR OPEN CHAMPIONSHIP at SUNNINGDALE when Loren Roberts 67,Fred Funk 67 and Mark McNulty 64 all tied on -12.
Roberts holed a swinging 20 foot putt at the first tie hole (18th) leaving McNulty with a tricky 10 footer to tie which he got.Funk who set a record score after 2 rounds had to pull out as he could only make a par.Roberts & McNulty halved the same hole with pars the second time around.McNulty drove into the bushes at the 3rd tie hole,which required a penalty drop and could only make a bogey 5.Roberts,champion in 2006 camly took his 2 putts for par and the title with 222,777 Euros prize money.
Bernhard Langer who was 3 over par after 17 holes in the first round,recovered brilliantly to finish 4th with a closing 65 to finish on -11.
Sam Torrance was 5th on -10 after a final round 67.Larry Mize 68 and overnight leader Greg Norman 71 were joint 6th on -9.
Last weeks Open Championship runner up Tom Watson had another great week and finished in a group of 5 on -7.
Denis o Sullivan saved his best golf to the last.He had a final round of 67 for a tie in joint 17th on -4,while Des Smyth who started with a 66 finished well down in 58th position on +6.
