Is the European Club a fair test or a joke.

Pat Ruddy set up and designed his dream golf course in Wicklow to be a fair test of golf, but is it?.With 120 of Irelands top Club professionals excited about taking part in their National Championship,69 of them went home after taking more than 156 shots(14 over par) for 2 rounds. The usual questions from their club members"What went wrong, you were playing well"
Anyone who hasn't player the European club probably wouldn't understand.Deep bunkers with Sleepers up to 15feet in the air. Some on the fairway, means you don't have to hit a bad drive to catch one.If you ball is close to the Sleepers you have no shot because you can't follow through. You have to take a penalty drop, inside the bunker.
Is that fair ?.
Run of the fairway and you are in HEAVY rough that can damage your wrist trying to move it forward, Ask Darren McWilliams who finished up in hospital.Leslie Walker, chasing Harrington also had to retire with a damaged wrist and Peter Martin, shoulder injury
Is that fair ?
Not one of the par 4s is under 400yards and 2 are over 500 yards, then you get to the greens which are massive and require a deft putting stroke to walk of with 2 putts.
In my opion it is not a fair test, but more likely to be a test of endurance.
Harrington seems to be able to work his way around, but then again he is a triple major winner with one of the best short games in the World.
Of the top 10 players in round 3,they only managed 18 birdies between them, while the 10 that finished at the bottom could only manage 6 between them.(1 had 3 while 6 had none.)
Is that a fair test?
