Bertus Smit wins Wales Seniors Open.

There was a clear winner of the Ryder Cup Wales Senior Open at the Royal Porthcawl golf club,when South African Bertus Smit finished on 5 under par.A poor start of 74 was soon forgotten with rounds of 68,69 to win by 4 shots from Aussie,David Merriman who was the only other one to finish under par.
Local favorite Ian Woosnam had to settle for a share of 3rd place when he faded out of contention after a final round 74.It left him with a level par total,alongside Des Smyth,Bobby Lincoln and Ross Drummond.
Jimmy Heggarty recovered from an 80 in round one to hit 69,72 for a share of 19th on +5.Denis o Sullivan +9,Eamon Darcy +13 and Eddie Polland +18 made up the Irish scores.
