Lucas Glover wins 109th US Open at Bethpage.

Lucas Glover was crowned US Champion after 5 long days of rain delayed golf at Bethpage golf club in Long Island,New York.
His -4 finish of 276 was good enough to win,even though his playing partner Ricky Barnes got to -11 after 4 holes of his 3rd round.Mid way through the day, any one of 10 golfers could have won.
After Barnes filtered away shots at the 1st,5th,6th,7th and 8th it left Glover in the lead on -4.Peoples favorite Phil Mickleson had the large crowd on their feet as he birdied the 12th and eagled the 13th.David Duval took a 6 at the par 3,3rd hole,but refused to give up.He birdied 3 in a row at the 14th,15th and 16th to join Glover & Mickleson at the top on -4.Other golfers trying to get in on the act were Tiger,Ross Fisher,Soren Hanson and Hunter Mahan.
Mickleson playing for his wife Amy, as she goes for Breast surgery next week was the first to drop out of the lead with a missed 3 foot putt on the 15th for par,and another missed 8 footer at the 17th took him back to -2.Duval's dream return took a knock when his 3foot putt Horse-shoeed out of the hole to leave him on -2.Long time leader Ricky Barnes steadied the ship after his poor start, also finished with a -2 total.
This left the door open for Lucas Glover.He battled hard all day,making some great up and down's for pars.A bogey at the 15th was a set back,but he clinched the title on the 16th with his one and only birdie of the day.He was a relieved man as his 2 putt par at the last won him his first Major title and he had to do it the hard way.
Glover started the year at 177 in the World.After yesterday he is now in 18th place.
Duval who had all but dissapeared since his British Open win in 2001,is happy to be back.He was world No1 in 1999.He started this week 882nd in the world and is now in 142nd spot.We can expect to see a lot more of him from now on.Tiger Woods finished in joint 6th on level par.Not only did he play the first two days in the worst of the weather but his putting let him down.When his normal average is 27 this week he took 31,30,29,30.
20 year old Rory McIlroy had another great tournament and no doubt is a future champion.He shot a best of the day 68 to finish in joint 10th on +2.Rory jumped up 2 spots in the world ranking to 16th.
Graeme Mc Dowell also had the wrong side of the draw over the first two days finished in 18th on +4.
